Random Question: I have a co-worker going to China to shoot video stuff. He’s going to need to charge batteries, maybe in a car. Does China follow the same 12v automotive standard that the US does? I tried googling it but couldn’t find what I was looking for, it’s all stuff for sale or irrelevant. Anyone know?

Cars are 12V everywhere.
Large commercial vehicles are 24V most places (not North America for some reason.)

Class 7 and 8 trucks used to run 24v starters and alternators and 12v everything else. Starter and alternator efficiency has improved to the point that 24v is not necessary.

Maybe so but trucks remain 24v in much of the world (fully 24v, not just the starter). Interestingly some component makers are pushing for 48v on the grounds of efficiency.

I was reading about that in an automotive trade magazine. It is much more efficient than 12. In the States the big drawback is that there is fear among techs and others.
They say you are OK to about 90v DC in things I have read.
